Discovery staff volunteers support the community through CSI
Our Volunteer Programme complements our CSI funding by providing wide-ranging involvement and support to our CSI projects. Our employees are committed to sharing their expertise with the projects and communities that we serve.
Focus on health and wellness
By focusing on health and wellness in our CSI programme, we are aligning our social investment strategy – aimed at reconciling the social needs of indigent South African communities – with our core philosophy of promoting healthy and active lifestyles. This is underscored further by committed Discovery staff members who contribute of their time, skills and resources through our Volunteer Programme.
Ingrained in our corporate values
We have instilled social responsibility as a corporate value – challenging employees to become stakeholders in CSI as an invaluable part of gaining and sustaining employee commitment. Our staff volunteer initiatives provide opportunities for all our people to make a contribution, as staff members can get involved in a variety of ways. This is not limited to fundraising efforts, and it includes offering their time to assist our projects with various tasks, such as painting, gardening, computer and soft skills training for staff, etc.
Teamwork for change
Recently, whole departments at Discovery have started getting involved in CSI volunteer initiatives in a consistent and ongoing way, pooling their resources and expertise to deliver phenomenal results in the community. Certain individuals also provide specialised support to our CSI projects, in line with their qualifications, skills and experience.

National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week is an annual volunteerism effort, and since its inception in 2005, Discovery employees have enthusiastically supported this initiative. Read more about three years’ volunteering efforts from around the country.
The Winter Woollies knitting challenge
Our annual winter woollies drive is a perfect example of the power of volunteerism. This initiative encourages staff members to knit and donate warm jerseys, scarves, beanies and mittens, that are then handed over to various children’s homes in the community.
