About the DiscoveryCard Protector
DiscoveryCard holders who have Discovery Life policies can apply for the DiscoveryCard Protector. In the event of your death, disability or severe illness, the DiscoveryCard Protector will pay the outstanding balance on your DiscoveryCard and cover your DiscoveryCard spend related to key living expenses in full for your selected benefit term. The selected benefit term could be one year, three years or five years.
- Simply use your DiscoveryCard for your day-to-day living expenses.
- Should you experience a life-changing event, such as disability, severe illness or death, Discovery Life will pay:
- The outstanding balance on your DiscoveryCard, subject to a maximum benefit of R 43, 590
- The monthly amount you will receive through the DiscoveryCard Protector depends on your average DiscoveryCard spend on key living expenses in the twelve months before the life-changing event (subject to a maximum of R 14, 500 per month), for the duration of the selected benefit term
- A minimum benefit of R2, 450 a month is payable where there is no historical spend detail at the time of claim
- You, or your dependants, will receive a monthly payment based on your average DiscoveryCard spend for up to five years to cover key living expenses such as cellphone bills, food, clothes and fuel expenses
- The benefit payment will continue for either one, three or five years depending on the benefit term you choose
- If you choose the three- or five-year term, benefit payments will escalate by inflation each year.

- Cellphone expenses through Altech Autopage.
- Food, clothing and other expenses through Pick n Pay and Stuttafords.
- Fuel and other expenses through DiscoveryMotor card.
