Screening and Prevention benefit
Preventive screening is crucial to ensure you detect medical conditions early, so that we can ensure the best care for you.
We pay for the following from your Screening Benefit:
- one mammogram
- one Pap smear
- one prostate-specific antigen test
- HIV screening tests
Members from the age of 65 and members registered for certain chronic conditions are also covered for a seasonal flu vaccine from this benefit.
We cover these tests up to the Discovery Health Rate and they must be referred by an appropriate medical professional. You can visit any pathologist or radiologist to have them done. Only the test will be covered, and not the associated consultation ie the consultation will be funded from your available day-to-day benefits.
Vitality Check
The Screening and Prevention Benefit also covers a group of preventive screening tests (called the Vitality Check) for each person each year.
- Your Medical Savings Account will not be affected by this claim.
- You must have this group of tests done at the same time.
- We will cover up to one group of tests from the Screening Benefit so if you have the tests done on different days, you will need to pay for them. The Vitality Check is covered if you go to a provider in the Discovery Wellness Network list.
The Vitality Check covers:
- a blood glucose check
- a blood pressure check
- a cholesterol check
- a healthy weight check.
These network providers will send claims through MediKredit. If you choose not to have a participating pharmacy do these tests, you will have to pay for them.
The benefit is offered on all Discovery Health Plans and you do not have to be on Vitality to access the Screening Benefit.
