The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation
Harnessing the uplifting power of sport
Discovery CSI’s partnership with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation of South Africa has allowed us to become involved in diverse projects that promote wellness and combat community-specific social challenges through sport. Laureus is unique in that it uses a sporting code to address social issues.
Sustainable social development through sport
Through this partnership we support various projects that use sport to bring about social change in disadvantaged communities. The various Laureus projects that we support nationwide have given us the opportunity to address community-specific social issues while encouraging young people to lead healthy and active lives.
Social transformation through wellness
It is our belief that sport can be an irresistible force for progressive social change. South Africa is a sports-loving nation and, within the context of social development, sport presents us with a captive audience. This grants us a unique opportunity to use sport to combat specific social issues in individual communities.
Country patron of the South African chapter
As the country patron of the South African chapter of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, Discovery is providing funding of R12.5 million over five years.
Key projects that we support through Laureus
Through our involvement with Laureus we currently support nine projects throughout the country.
The Helderberg Partnership Project and Playing for Peace (now known as PeacePlayers International) are also featured in our book, Face Up.
