Enhancing travel insurance for our clients

We've ended our long partnership with Oojah Travel Protection (underwritten by Hollard Insurance), who provided travel insurance to our Discovery Card and Discovery Bank Gold and Platinum cardholders. However, we're happy to confirm that free international travel insurance for these cardholders will now be underwritten by Discovery Insure Ltd, which offers additional value to clients.

This change is effective from 1 August 2021.

Discovery Bank Black and Purple cardholders will continue receiving free international travel insurance from Visa through Chubb Insurance South Africa Ltd.

New and enhanced benefits

We've created a superior experience that comes with exciting new benefits:

1. Increased limits on medical emergencies.
2. The inclusion of debit cardholders.
3. Increase in age limits to cover individuals up to the age of 80 years for medical emergencies.
4. There's no age limit for personal accident cover.

How it works

Clients whose accounts are in good standing* qualify for free travel insurance cover when travelling internationally.

Discovery Insure will activate the travel insurance cover when a client buys an international travel ticket in South Africa using a Discovery Bank card, including the previous Discovery Card, or Discovery Miles. When clients buy an international travel ticket, they don't have to contact us for a policy because Discovery Insure will automatically send it to them.

Medical cover

The enhanced travel insurance covers emergency medical (in the absence of cover through Discovery Health Medical Scheme's international travel benefit) and non-medical costs outside the borders of South Africa for 90 days from the date of departure from South Africa. Cover ends upon the client's return home or after 90 days from the date of departure from South Africa, whichever happens first.

Who underwrites the different accounts

Important information to note

Discovery Insure may contact qualifying clients to discuss the terms and conditions of the cover. The travel insurance terms and conditions and policy documents for Discovery Bank Black or Purple credit cardholders are all available on the Visa website.

Because of our ongoing partnerships to secure free travel insurance for clients, we may have to share relevant personal information with Visa and Discovery Insure to activate cover from time to time.

All parties agree to keep clients' personal information confidential and they'll only use it to manage their travel insurance.

Clients must read the travel insurance terms and conditions before they travel. By doing so, they will know more about the benefits, cover value, and full travel insurance rules.
