So, are older South Africans really driving better?

"Yes, they are," says Discovery Insure Chief Executive Officer, Anton Ossip. "Our telematics-based data shows us that well-engaged clients aged 65 to 80 have a 28% higher driving score than drivers of other Vitality Drive age groups."

"This age group also drives 37% fewer kilometres than other drivers monthly," he adds. "This contributes to a considerably lower risk profile because less time is spent on the road. It effectively lowers the risk of being in an accident," explains Ossip.

Lowered risk is one of the goals of Vitality Drive. Alongside good driving behaviours, another major contributing factor for lower risk profiles relates to health and healthier living.

"We've seen that older clients who proactively manage their health aren't as great a risk on the road as you might think. Discovery Insure data shows that older clients who complete their Vitality Health Check have a 10% lower vehicle loss ratio, which means fewer vehicle claims. How to qualify for Vitality Drive 65+

To qualify, you must:

• Be aged 65 to 80 years
• Complete the Vitality Health Check for 65+
• Have Vitality Drive on your plan for at least six months
• Drive less than 10 000 km in a year
