Alexandra Health Care and University Clinic
The Alexandra Health Centre and University Clinic, which is situated in the Alexandra Township was initially established in 1929 as a maternal and child health centre before evolving into a Primary Health Care centre. The clinic has served the Alexandra community for over 70 years with a vast array of healthcare services.
It serves a population of around 700 000 people, and its mission is to strengthen the health and wellbeing of individuals and families living in the township and surrounding areas. The Alexandra Health Centre and University Clinic provide patients with diagnosis and treatment of acute ailments, antenatal delivery and post-natal care, growth monitoring and immunisation, family planning and outreach services in occupational health. The clinic first approached the Discovery Fund for support 13 years ago and the Fund awarded the clinic a grant in recognition of its excellence. Since then, the Discovery Fund has supported the clinic, helping to strengthen and improve its primary healthcare service delivery to the surrounding communities. In addition, Discovery Health’s Exco has recently adopted the clinic as their Employee Volunteer project.
