Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch

Vitality Active Rewards gives Vitality members weekly rewards for getting active. Now you can choose to get Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminium Case Sport 38mm or Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminium Case Sport 40mm and use it to achieve your weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals. If you meet all four of your weekly fitness goals in a month, your monthly amount for your Apple Watch will be funded in full.

Vitality Active Rewards goal targets are not static: a fundamental design principle on which Vitality Active Rewards has been built is that the goals are personalised and dynamic. When members miss goals, the weekly goal will start to drop – to nudge them to get active. And when members achieve their goals, their goals will start to increase – to motivate them to get fitter.

HOW IT WORKS

Fund your Apple Watch in full by reaching your monthly goals over 24 months

Reach your monthly Vitality Active Rewards goals to fund your Apple Watch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 4 in full over 24 months. If you don’t meet your goal, your qualifying Discovery Card will be debited by a monthly amount that is calculated as a percentage of the retail price of the Apple Watch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 4 at time of collection (pricing subject to change).

NEED TO KNOW

The Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch is applicable to Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminium Case Sport 38mm (including Nike+ Aluminium Case Sport 38mm) or Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminium Case Sport 40mm (including Nike+ Aluminium Case Sport 40mm). You can select a different model by paying the difference upfront at the iStore. Apple Watch is earned over a 24-month period.

To qualify for this benefit:

  • You need iPhone 5S or a later model to use Apple Watch.
  • You must activate Vitality Active Rewards. If you haven't yet activated it, do so today by downloading the latest version of the Discovery app and clicking on Vitality Active Rewards under 'Vitality'.
  • You must have a Discovery Gold Card or higher. If you don't have a qualifying Discovery Card, you can apply for one or request an upgrade on www.discovery.co.za. You can also call us on 0860 99 88 77. If you do have a qualifying Discovery Card, it must be in good standing*.
  • You require a Discovery Gold Card or higher with a straight limit of at least R15 000 and an available balance of at least R5 000 after paying the R799 Apple Watch activation fee and when you collect your Apple Watch from iStore. You can request a limit increase online or on 0860 99 88 77.
  • Only the main or secondary member on a policy as well as an adult dependent qualify for the benefit.
  • You need to pay a non-refundable activation fee of R799 with your Discovery Card.
  • You can buy one Apple Watch per Vitality policy in a 24-month period.
  • The Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit does not include Apple Watch 1, Apple Watch Series 1, and Apple Watch Series 2.
  • If you activate the benefit from 28 September 2018, you can redeem your voucher for Apple Watch Series 3  or Apple Watch Series 4.
  • If a member on a policy already has an active Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit, they do not qualify to activate the benefit again to get the Apple Watch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 4 until they have either reached the end of the 24 months, or they have paid the remaining cost owed on their current Apple Watch and the benefit is then cancelled.

*Your Discovery Card account and Discovery Card is in good standing if it is open, active and not in arrears for more than three months. Your account is not in good standing if you need to undergo debt counselling.

If you meet all your weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals for 24 months, Discovery Vitality will fund your Apple Watch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 4 in full. If you don't meet your goals, your primary Discovery Card will be debited by a monthly amount (penalty) that is calculated as a percentage of the retail price at time of collection.

For example, the table below is based on a retail price of R7 400 for Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminium Case Sport 38mm or Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminium Case Sport 40mm. If you didn't meet all your goals in a particular month, your Discovery Card would be debited by up to R308.33 a month for 24 months (pricing subject to change). If you achieved three of your four Vitality Active Rewards goals that month, just R154.16 would be debited due to your engagement in Vitality Active Rewards.

Follow these easy steps to claim your Apple Watch:

  1. Download or update to the latest version of the Discovery app to your iPhone. Then log in on your iPhone or here on the website.
  2. Navigate to 'Vitality Active Rewards' and select 'Apple Watch'.
  3. Click on the ‘Get started’ button. Please note: Only one member per Vitality policy can activate this benefit and get Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminium Case Sport 38mm (including Nike+ Aluminium Case Sport 38mm) or Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminium Case Sport 40mm (including Nike+ Aluminium Case Sport 40mm) every 24 months.
  4. Follow the process as instructed by confirming your details and paying a non-refundable R799 activation fee using your qualifying Discovery Card. The non-refundable activation fee will be deducted from your qualifying Discovery Card within the next 24 hours.
  5. If you have more than one Secondary Discovery Card and are not a Primary Discovery Card holder, the activation fee and the monthly amounts (penalty), if applicable, will be automatically debited from one of your Secondary Discovery Cards. Should you wish to change the account used for debit purposes, please call Discovery Card on 0860 11 22 73.
  6. If a member already has an active Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit, they do not qualify to activate the benefit again in order to get Apple Watch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 4.
  7. Once you have paid your R799 activation fee, you will get a digital proof of payment, which you can access any time on your Discovery app.
  8. Use your proof of payment to collect your Apple Watch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 4 at your nearest iStore. It cannot be used online.
  9. If you’d like to select a different model, you need to pay the price difference upfront at the iStore.
  10. Your proof of payment is only valid for 90 days from its date of issue. After 90 days, it will expire. You will then need to activate the benefit again for an additional R799 non-refundable activation fee.
  11. Your R799 activation fee will not be refunded if you do not redeem your proof of payment or if your proof of payment expires.
  12. If at any stage you are no longer eligible for this benefit, your proof of payment will be forfeited and cancelled.
  13. If you activated Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch before 28 September 2018, you qualify for Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminium Case Sport 38mm, and not Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminium Case Sport 40mm. You have 90 days from the date of activation to redeem your proof of payment of the activation fee at the iStore.
  14. If you activate the Vitality Active Rewards Apple Watch benefit before 28 September 2018 but have not yet collected your Apple Watch Series 3 and would prefer to get Apple Watch Series 4, (provided this falls within 90 days from the date of activation), we will refund you your R600 activation fee. You will then need to activate the Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit again for Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminium Case Sport 40mm (including Nike+ Aluminium Case Sport 40mm), pay the R799 non-refundable activation fee, and use your proof of payment to collect your Apple Watch Series 4 from the iStore.

Please note: If you wish to trade-in your current Apple Watch, you can contact iStore directly. If you choose to go directly to the iStore and trade in your current Apple Watch without paying the remaining costs still owed on your current Apple Watch, you will still be under obligation to pay the applicable monthly penalty debit.

Transfer my Apple Watch benefit
I have not collected the Apple Watch from the iStore.

If you have not collected your Apple Watch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 4 from an iStore, please log into www.discovery.co.za and send us a query through the Vitality Help page requesting to cancel your Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit. You will not be refunded your R799 non-refundable activation fee. Once the benefit is cancelled, another member on your policy can activate the benefit if they are eligible.

Can I return my Apple Watch or change it for Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminium Case Sport 38mm or Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminium Case Sport 40mm?
  • Returns on Apple Watch will be governed by the distributor’s policies. To view these, visit www.istoreonline.co.za.
  • If you return your Apple Watch to the distributor, your R799 activation fee will not be refunded.
  • If you want to change your current Apple Watch to Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminium Case Sport 38mm (including Nike+ Aluminium Case Sport 38mm) or the Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminium Case Sport 40mm (including Nike+ Aluminium Case Sport 40mm), the following will apply:
    • First, you must settle the remaining cost of your current Apple Watch with Discovery Vitality. If you choose not to settle the remaining cost on your current Apple Watch, the benefit will remain active and you will continue to pay the monthly penalty debits for the remainder of the 24 months.
    • You must not have defaulted on any penalty debits with regards to your existing Apple Watch benefit.
    • You will need to activate the Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit for Apple Watch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 4 and pay the R799 activation fee. This is subject to passing the eligibility criteria.
    • You can then use your proof of payment to collect your Apple Watch at the iStore.
    • If you wish to trade-in your current Apple Watch, please contact iStore directly.
    • Once the cost is settled, the existing Apple Watch benefit will be cancelled.
    • You will need to activate Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch for Apple Watch Series 3 or the Apple Watch Series 4 and pay the R799 activation fee. This is subject to passing the eligibility criteria.
    • You can then use your proof of payment to collect your Apple Watch Series 3 or the Apple Watch Series 4 at the iStore.
Can I transfer or gift my Apple Watch?

You are able to transfer the Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit to another eligible member on your Vitality policy. In order to transfer the benefit the following rules apply:

  • The person you want to transfer the watch to (transferee) must be a main, secondary member or adult dependent on the Vitality policy;
  • They must be eligible for the Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit within 60 days of collection of the Apple Watch. To find out if the person you want to transfer the watch to is eligible, please view the transfer form;
  • The transfer can only be effected within 60 days of collection of the Apple Watch Series 3 Aluminium Case Sport 38mm (including Nike+ Aluminium Case Sport 38mm) or the Apple Watch Series 4 Aluminium Case Sport 40mm (including Nike+ Aluminium Case Sport 40mm) at the iStore by the transferor;
  • The transfer form must be completed, signed by both parties and received by Vitality within 60 days of collection of the Apple Watch by the transferor;
  • A non-refundable transfer fee of R600 will be charged to the qualifying Discovery Card linked to the benefit;
  • Only one transfer will be allowed per Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit;
  • You (the transferor) will not be refunded the original R799 non-refundable activation fee.

Please make sure that you sign and submit the entire application form. The completion of this form does not guarantee that a transfer will be granted. Discovery Vitality reserves the right to decline the transfer of the Vitality Active Rewards with Apple Watch benefit. If a transfer request is denied you will receive communication with regards to the reason for the decline.

Gifting my Apple Watch benefit.

If you gift your Apple Watch to someone else, your personal Vitality Active Rewards goals will still be used for this benefit. This means that if you don't meet your commitment to achieve all your weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals for 24 months, it will be considered a breach of your warranty and your qualifying Discovery Card will be debited monthly, as applicable.
