You're in the driver's seat - drive well to earn your Vitality Drive points
" What you put in is what you get out " neatly sums up Vitality Drive 3.0's new points structure that is based entirely on you; how and when you drive.
Our new points structure
We are putting you in control as your Vitality Drive points will now be based solely on your driving behavior and you making sure your vehicle is safe to drive, making it simpler for you to increase your Vitality Drive points. Earn up to 3,000* Vitality Drive points by driving well every day, improving your driving behaviour and making sure your vehicles are safe to drive. The better you drive, the more Vitality Drive points you will earn, the higher your Vitality Drive status will be and the more fuel cash back you will get to enjoy.
Remember, there are 5 things that contribute towards your 3,000 Vitality Drive points every month. Ensure you are giving all of the following attention:
Driving profile: | Up to 1,800* Vitality Drive points |
---|---|
Distance: | Up to 300 points |
Night time driving: | Up to 300 points |
Claim free year/s: | Up to 300 points |
Annual multi-point check: | Up to 300 points |
* Maximum Vitality Drive points available for clients with the Vitality Drive Sensor or Crowd Search Sensor. If you have the standalone DQ-Track, your Driving Profile builds up to 1,500 Vitality Drive points over the month (50 Drive points x 30 days = 1,500 Vitality Drive points), as we are not able to measure your cellphone usage through this telematics device.
To make sure that you're getting the most of your reward-earning capabilities, it is good practice to check that your Vitality Drive Sensor or Crowd Search Sensor is synced to your Discovery Insure app. And remember to enable all your settings:
- Have your Bluetooth switched on
- Mobile data needs to be switched on
- Power save mode needs to be switched off
- Location settings set to on
How do I earn points for my Driving Profile?
If you have the Vitality Drive Sensor or Crowd Search Sensor, you will be allocated 60 Drive points at the start of each day.
* If you have the standalone DQ-Track, you will be allocated 50 Drive points at the start of each day.
The idea is to keep as many of your daily points as you can by driving well every single day.
Save your points in these 5 ways:
- Accelerate smoothly
- Brake smoothly
- Take corners smoothly
- Drive within the speed limit
- Do not use your cellphone while driving
Harsh and erratic driving behaviour such as braking suddenly or a having a heavy foot on the accelerator will reduce your daily Drive points balance. Points will be deducted based on the type and severity of your harsh driving behaviour, according to this table:
If you have the standalone DQ-Track, 8 Drive points will be deducted for each acceleration, braking and cornering event during each trip. Drive points will be deducted for speeding in line with the table above. And since we cannot measure your cellphone use with this device, no Drive points will be deducted for this.
At the end of each day, your remaining Drive points will bank towards your monthly Driving Profile.
You can earn up to 1,800 Vitality Drive points per month and here's how: 60 Drive points x 30 days = 1,800 Vitality Drive points
If you have the Standalone DQ-Track, you can earn up to 1,500 Vitality Drive points over the month. So, your calculation will be as follows: 50 Drive points x 30 days = 1,500 Vitality Drive points.
How do I earn my points for Distance?
The more time you spend on the road, the higher your risk of being involved in an accident. So, the less time you spend behind the wheel, the higher your distance points will be. If you drive no more than 149km per month, you will be able to maintain your 300 Distance points.
Distance Points are allocated as follows:
Ensure all of your trips are covered
It is good practice to always check that your sensor and app are properly linked. If your Vitality Drive Sensor or Crowd Search Sensor and the Discovery Insure app are not linked, the trips you make are considered uncovered.
Uncovered trips reduce your daily Drive points balance. So, be sure all your settings are enabled to stay connected and maintain Drive points.
Uncovered trips will have points deducted as follows:
How does Night time driving affect my points?
Avoid driving at night if possible or use our Drive Me partners. Driving at night comes with many risks, especially between 23h00 and 04h30. Visibility is poor and there are more impaired drivers frequenting the road during this time.
Points are calculated as the total night-time driving points of 300 less the sum of Vitality Drive points deducted for night-time driving over the past 30 days. A certain number of points are deducted for every minute driven between 23h00 and 04h30, based on the time. Your night trips will have points deducted as follows:
Take better care behind the wheel and remain claim free
By not having vehicle claims, you can earn up to 300 Vitality Drive points a month. You can earn 150 Vitality Drive points for remaining claim-free for two years and 300 Vitality Drive points for three claim-free years*.
*Vehicle glass and SOS claims do not affect your claim-free years.
Make sure your vehicles are safe to drive
Assessing the roadworthiness of your vehicle's safety functions by doing an Annual MultiPoint check at Tiger Wheel and Tyre or a Discovery Drive Centre can earn you up to 300 Vitality Points per month if your vehicle passes the test.
