Can I change the spend limits for my cards on the Discovery Bank app?

You can set and update spend limits for any of your Discovery Bank debit and credit cards on the banking app. Simply log in to the banking app to set or update the daily and monthly limits for your:

  • Overall spend
  • Budget facility
  • Local online purchases
  • Local in-store purchases
  • Local ATM withdrawals
  • Local in-store withdrawals
  • International online purchases
  • International in-store purchases
  • International ATM withdrawals.
How do I change the limits on my Discovery Bank card?

To change the daily and monthly spend limits for your Discovery Bank debit or credit card, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll left until you see the card you want to update
  4. Tap Card limits.
  5. Update daily and monthly limits.
  6. Tap Save to complete the limit change.
How do I apply for a credit limit increase on my Discovery Bank credit card?

To apply for a credit limit increase, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select More at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap on Single credit facility.
  4. Tap Increase in the tile at the top and follow the steps.
Where can I view the details of my Discovery Bank card?

To view your Discovery Bank debit or credit card's details, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll left until you see the card you want to view the PIN of.
  4. Tap on the top-right corner and select Show card details

Note: to hide your card details again, tap on the top-right corner again and select hide card details

How do I copy my card details from the Discovery Bank app?

To copy your Discovery card's details, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll left until you see the card you want to copy the number of.
  4. Tap on the top-right corner and select Copy card number.
  5. The card number will now copy to your clipboard, and you be able to paste it where necessary.
Where can I view my Discovery Bank card's PIN?

To view your Discovery Bank debit or credit card's PIN, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll left until you see the card you want to view the PIN of.
  4. Tap View PIN.

Remember to keep your PIN secret. Never share your PIN with anyone and never write it down anywhere.

How do I change my Discovery Bank card's PIN?

To change your Discovery Bank debit or credit card's PIN, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll left until you see the card you want to update.
  4. Tap Change PIN.
  5. Enter a new PIN and confirm it by entering it again.
  6. Tap Save Changes to complete the PIN setup.

Remember to keep your PIN secret. Never share your PIN with anyone and never write it down anywhere.

How do I pause my Discovery Bank card?

If you have to pause your Discovery Bank debit or credit card for any reason, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll left until you see the card you want to pause.
  4. Select Pause card.
  5. Tap Confirm to complete the request.
How do I request a replacement Discovery Bank card?

If you need to request a replacement for your Discovery Bank debit or credit card, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll left until you see the card you need a replacement for.
  4. Tap Replace card.
  5. Select a reason for replacing your card.
  6. Tap Delivery option and select either Delivery or Collection.
    • For deliveries: Select your delivery address from the list (or tap Add Address to add a new delivery address).
    • For collections: Select the Discovery Store you want to collect your card from.
  7. Tap Next and then tap Confirm to complete the request.
  8. Select Confirm to complete the card request.
How do I cancel my Discovery Bank card?

If you have to cancel your Discovery Bank debit or credit card, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll left until you see the card you want to cancel.
  4. Select Cancel card.
  5. Tap Confirm to complete the request.
How do I change my card colour?

To change the colour of your Discovery Bank card, you need to either upgrade or downgrade your Discovery Bank product.

Additional   cards

What is the difference between an additional card and a secondary card?

An additional card is an extra card linked to your Discovery Bank account, where the user of the card is you, the main accountholder. You can access this card on your banking app.

A secondary card is a card linked to your account, but where the user of the card is someone other than you. The secondary cardholder needs to download and register their own Discovery Bank app to activate and have access to the secondary card's settings.

Note: We charge a monthly fee of R40 for each additional and secondary card you add to your account.

I need another card linked for my account - must I get an additional or secondary card?

Whether you need to request for an additional or secondary card depends on the user and purpose. For example:

  • If you're planning to travel abroad and would like a back-up card in case your primary card is lost or stolen, you can request an additional card for yourself.
  • If you would like someone else to have access to the funds in your account, you can request a secondary card and have them set it up on their Discovery Bank app.
How do I get an additional Discovery Bank card?

To get an additional Discovery Bank debit or credit card, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap on the top-right corner and select Add card.
  4. Select whether you want a physical or virtual card.
  5. If you opted for a physical card, tap Who will be using this card? and select the relevant option from the dropdown list. If you opted for a virtual card, you will move straight to the next step.
  6. Tap Specific purpose of this card? and select the relevant option from the dropdown list.
  7. If you want to add a spend limit, tick the This card requires a monthly spend limit box and complete and add a spend limit in the Amount field.
  8. Tap Next.
  9. Choose a PIN for your new card and tap Next.
  10. Tap Delivery option and select either Delivery or Collection.
    • For deliveries: Select your delivery address from the list (or tap Add Address to add a new delivery address).
    • For collections: Select the Discovery Store you want to collect your card from.
  11. Tap Next and then tap Confirm to complete the request.

How do I get a debit card for my transaction account?

To get a debit card for your Discovery Bank Transaction Account, you must:

  1. Log in to the banking app.
  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap on the top-right corner and select Add card.
  4. Select whether you want a physical or virtual card.
  5. If you opted for a physical card, tap Who will be using this card? and select the relevant option from the dropdown list. If you opted for a virtual card, you will move straight to the next step.
  6. Tap Specific purpose of this card? and select the relevant option from the dropdown list.
  7. If you want to add a spend limit, tick the This card requires a monthly spend limit box and complete and add a spend limit in the Amount field.

We charge a monthly fee of R40 for each additional and secondary card you add to your account.

Do I get a card if I open a savings account?

Our savings accounts don't come with bank cards. You get physical or virtual bank cards with transaction or credit card accounts.


Secondary   cards

What are secondary cards?

A secondary card is an additional card that you, as the primary accountholder, can link to one of your accounts, but give to someone else to use.

By adding secondary cards to your account for someone else, you authorise that a secondary cardholder can access funds in that account through swiping, online shopping or cash withdrawals with the card.

This is often useful when you want to give access to available money in the account to a spouse or children over 18 years old.

What is the difference between an additional card and a secondary card?

How do I add a secondary cardholder to my account?

  2. Select Cards at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap on the top-right corner and select Add card.
  4. Select Add a Physical card.
  5. Tap Who will be using this card? and then:
    • If you have added the secondary cardholder's details before, select the name of the person who will be using this secondary card.
    • If this is a new secondary cardholder, select This card is for someone else.
  6. Tap Specific purpose of this card? and select the relevant option from the dropdown list.
  7. If you want to add a spend limit, tick the This card requires a monthly spend limit box and complete and add a spend limit in the Amount field.
  8. Tap Next.
    Note: If you selected This card is for someone else in step 5, you will now get a Let's capture the secondary cardholder's details screen. Complete the new cardholder's details and tap Next.
  9. Check that all details are correct and tap Confirm to complete the request for a secondary card.
What happens after I have requested a secondary card on the Discovery Bank app?

Once you have completed the request for a secondary card, the secondary cardholder will receive an SMS notification to download and register on the app.

Once they have registered on the app, they will be able to activate the new secondary card, choose a PIN and select a delivery option.

How many secondary cardholders can I add to my account?

You can add as many secondary cards as you need, but each secondary cardholder needs to download and register themselves on the Discovery Bank app to activate their card and access its settings.

Registration is quick and easy because the primary accountholder has already set up the product details when requesting the secondary card.

Why do my secondary cardholders have to register on the app?

Registering on the app gives secondary cardholders on your account the same high level of security, keeping your account safe and secure.

Registering on the app also allows secondary cardholders to view and export their transaction history, change their PIN, and do much more.

What is the credit limit for the secondary card?

Because the secondary card is linked to your account, your secondary cardholders will share your credit limit. All transactions made with the secondary card will be processed from the same account balance or credit facility as the primary card. However, you're able to set spend limits on each secondary card.

Can I set a limit on the secondary card?

As a primary account holder, you can select to set a spending limit to the card when you request a secondary card on the app. Simply tick the This card requires a monthly spend limit box and add the amount you want to set up as the limit for the card.

To change the spend limits of your secondary card after the initial setup process is complete, simply follow the same process as when updating your other card limits.

What is the Discovery Bank Motor Card?

The Discovery Bank Motor Card is an additional Discovery Bank credit card linked to your Discovery Bank Card Account that gives you a more convenient way to pay for fuel and car-related expenses. The Discovery Bank Motor Card also gives you important benefits like emergency assistance and towing services.

How do I get a Discovery Bank Motor Card for myself?

If you have an existing Discovery Bank Card Account or a Discovery Bank Suite, simply follow the process for adding an additional card and choose Motor as the purpose of the card. We'll then deliver your new Discovery Motor Card to you.

How much does a Discovery Bank Motor Card cost?

You will pay only R40 a month for each Discovery Bank Motor Card you link to your Discovery Bank Card Account. Best of all, you and your secondary cardholders pay no transaction fees for purchases made using your Discovery Bank Motor Card.

If you have a Discovery Bank Purple Suite, you get five additional or secondary cards, including the Discovery Bank Motor Card, free.

What motor benefits do I get with the Discovery Bank Motor Card?

You get essential benefits like emergency assistance and towing services. This includes help when you have a flat battery or tyre, run out of fuel, need a locksmith, need towing assistance or require breakdown assistance.

What emergency assistance benefits can I get?

Flat tyre: We'll help you put on your spare tyre, at both roadside and non-roadside (for example, home or work) locations.

Fuel: We cover the call-out fee and provide you with 10 litres of fuel, up to a maximum of twice a year, if you run out of fuel. From then on, and at non-roadside locations, you pay for the call-out fee and the fuel.

Locksmith: We cover the locksmith's call-out fee and one hour's labour so as to retrieve your keys if you've locked them in your car.

Flat battery: We'll help you jumpstart your vehicle, if possible, at both roadside and non-roadside locations.

If you need emergency assistance, call Discovery 911 on 0860 999 911. The call centre is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

What towing services can I get access to?

You get cover for tow-ins for mechanical or electrical breakdowns to the nearest place of repair or safekeeping.

If your car is in an accident, you have access to this service but you need to cover the costs.

You get assistance at non-roadside locations too. Vehicles can be towed from home, but in this case, you don't get an additional tow from the place of safekeeping or repair.

What breakdown assistance can I get access to?

If you break down more than 100km away from home, and we've arranged the tow, we'll cover you for one of the below services to a maximum of R500 in total:

  • Accommodation for one night
  • Transport service to a destination of your choice
  • 24 hour, Group B car rental - for example, a VW Polo Vivo or similar.

If you break down more than 100km away from home, and we've arranged the tow, we'll also arrange for your vehicle to be transported back to your home or place of work to a maximum of R500.

What banking benefits do I get with a Discovery Bank Motor Card?

You get a state-of-the-art vertical Discovery Bank Motor Card linked to your Discovery Bank Card Account. Secured with chip-and-PIN technology, you can use the tap-to-pay option while on the go.

Discovery Bank Virtual   card

What is a virtual card?

Virtual cards are digital alternatives to plastic physical cards and offer additional levels of safety and convenience. Each virtual card has an expiry date, as well as a unique 16-digit card number and CVV number, and comes with the same benefits as the physical card such as travel insurance, purchase protection, extended warranty, and rewards. But there's more - virtual cards are issued instantly, so you can start using them immediately to shop online and you can link them with your preferred device to use at any tap-and-go pay point.

What are the benefits of a virtual card?

You no longer have to worry about not having your card on hand and virtual cards are replaced automatically - there's no need to wait for a new one. Plus, you get state-of-the-art security, which guarantees that no one will be able to skim your card to steal your card details. You'll have the power to pause, cancel or reactivate it in real time if you feel unsafe. If you use your virtual card exclusively for online payments, you can reduce your physical card's online purchase limit to zero for additional security.

What does a virtual card cost?

If you're a new or existing Discovery Bank client, you can add virtual cards on the Discovery Bank app. Virtual cards linked to your accounts are free, and you can add as many virtual cards as you need.* Plus, because they are digital, you can start transacting immediately once you've set up your card.

How do I add a virtual card?

To add a virtual card, you must:

  1. Log in to the Discovery Bank app.
  2. Select Cards in the bottom navigation bar.
  3. Tap on the top-right corner and select Add card.
  4. Select Add a Virtual card.
  5. Select the account to link the virtual card to and select a purpose for the card.
  6. Set a spend limit, if needed, and tap Next.
  7. Select a PIN for your virtual card, then tap Next.
  8. Check the details and tap Confirm to complete.
