According to an observational study in 2017, only 7% of children are secured in car seats. In honour of Nelson Mandela's centenary year, Discovery Insure will be running a car seat collection drive to collect 67 car seats for Mandela Day. We encourage you to donate your old car seats between 18 -31 July 2018. Donate your child's old car seat and you could save a life!
The reality of road safety
Anyone who has kids knows that driving with them brings about an unpredictable set of distractions. Vehicle accidents are still the leading cause of accidental death in children who are under 15 years old.
Depending on the age and weight of your child, there are different types of seats to consider:
- Children under 15 months, weighing less than 13 kilograms should ride in rear-facing car seats
- Children over 18 kilograms should be correctly secured in belt-positioning booster seats or other appropriate restraints, until the adult lap and shoulder belts fit correctly, which is usually around age 8.

No car seat is too old to donate
It doesn't matter what condition the car seat is in. With the help of Wheel Well, Discovery Insure will have the donated car seats refurbished, making sure they are in the right condition for a parent to use to keep their child protected.
