World, Olympic, and Commonwealth Games champion Mokgadi Caster Semenya became a Discovery Vitality Ambassador in 2018.

Caster was born in a small village in the rural Limpopo, where she started to compete in inter-school athletics at 11. At 18, she won her first world 800m title, and she’s since matured into one of the world’s greatest female middle-distance runners – boasting three world 800m gold medals (2009, 2011, 2017) and two Olympic gold medals from London 2012 and Rio 2016.

The South African phenomenon holds senior national records in the 400m, 800m, 600m and 1 500m, which highlight her incredible range. She is the very first female to run a sub-50 time in the 400m, dip below 1:55 in her specialist 800m event, and clock a sub-four-minute time in the 1 500m. In 2018 she became the fourth-fastest woman of all time.

Lauded for her commitment to excellence, her resilience, and her strong but serene stand, Caster inspires many with her advocacy for women in sports and her dignified fight against the IAAF’s female eligibility rules.
