“I’m proud to join the Discovery team. Their investment proves their commitment to sport, to our youth, and to the health and unity of our nation.”

Football legend Lucas Radebe became a Discovery Vitality Ambassador in 2019.

Lucas first made a name for himself in the early nineties playing for Kaizer Chiefs, where both his skills and leadership abilities earned him a national call-up. His talent led him to Leeds United in England in 1994, where he became one of the first African players to make a mark in the Premier League. The former Bafana Bafana skipper went on to lead South Africa to two FIFA World Cups in France 1998 and Korea/Japan 2002.

Lucas is also esteemed for his involvement in the community, with his philanthropic work earning him an honorary Masters of Social Sciences from the University of Cape Town. His talent, courage and generosity has inspired thousands, and his immense energy and warmth continues to stir people to lead healthier lives.

As the Official Wellness Partner of Arsenal FC and official broadcast sponsor of the Premier League, Discovery shares a passion with Lucas both for growing the sport and for encouraging physical activity, especially among South Africa’s youth.

On becoming a Discovery Vitality ambassador, Lucas said: “I’m proud to join the Discovery team. I well understand the importance of making the most of your opportunities, and I believe that if you provide more young people with opportunities, skills, and a positive mentality, you inspire them to achieve.”
