The Financial Intelligence Centre Act 38 of 2001 (FICA), as amended in 2017, contains control measures to make it easier to detect and investigate money laundering and terrorist financing. FICA imposes specific responsibilities on financial institutions when starting a business relationship with a new client and during the business relationship.
