This screening is recommended for men and women over 60, it's a quick and painless test to determine the risk for the eye disease known as glaucoma, an eye disease characterised by an increased pressure in the eye. Vitality Fitness Assessment Results

You can do the new Vitality Fitness Assessment at all Virgin Active Health Clubs, our Discovery Stores, and any Discovery Vitality Wellness Centre.

The difference between the Vitality Fitness Assessment and the Vitality High Performance Fitness Assessment is that the Vitality High Performance Fitness Assessment has been designed to support members in their sporting activities. It is a maximal test which means you stop when you feel you physically cannot continue. It is only recommended for people who are experienced in exercising at extreme intensities.

Anyone can participate in the Vitality Fitness Assessment. This assessment is designed to give you a personalised understanding of how fit you are.

If your details are recorded immediately after you complete the Vitality Fitness Assessment, your points will show on your Vitality Points Tracker within 72 hours. It can sometimes take about one week for the biokineticist to send us the details so your points may take longer to reflect.

Vitality Functional Assessment for 65+

To make an appointment for the assessment you can call a biokineticist listed under the Vitality Wellness Network. Remember to take the following with you:

  • Your Discovery membership card
  • Your identity document
  • Comfortable clothes
  • An amount of R445.40. You have to pay for the Vitality Functional Assessment upfront. If you have a Discovery Health Plan with a Medical Savings Account and available funds, you can claim this amount back from the Scheme (unless you have a general waiting period). If you are a Discovery Life policyholder, you will need to pay for the Vitality Functional Assessment yourself.
  • Your Vitality points will be awarded automatically within a week after your assessment.
  • The Biokineticist will send your results to us to award you your Vitality points electronically.
  • You will need to email you Vitality Functional Assessment invoice to claims@discovery.co.za for your Vitality points to be awarded.
  • Discovery Life members and Discovery Health members who don’t want to claim from their Medical Savings Account but want their Vitality points must claim via the “claim points manually” feature on the Vitality website.

Vitality 65+ members are allowed to do both the Vitality Fitness Assessment (VFA) and the Vitality Functional Assessment (VFuA). Vitality awards members 2 500 participation base points. When you do both assessments, we only allocate 2 500 participation points for one of the assessments. However, we award you additional points for your VFA and these points are added to your participation points. This is limited by the maximum of 7 500 points.

The Vitality Functional Assessment is a new physical assessment available exclusively to members 65 years or older as part of the Vitality 65+ programme. The Vitality Functional Assessment is designed to give Vitality 65+ members an accurate and personalised understanding of their physical function and falls risk.

The Vitality Fitness Assessment is made up of two parts – a cardiovascular test on a watt bike or treadmill and a strength and flexibility test, both of which together can give you a well-rounded understanding of your fitness level. You will also get corrective exercises to improve areas of weakness and limited range of movement to help prevent injuries and improve their functionality.

However, we have now introduced the Vitality Functional Assessment which is exclusive to Vitality members 65 years or older. The Vitality Functional Assessment is a clinically validated assessment for mobility, flexibility and falls risk to identify and improve the risk of early frailty and disability and recommend exercises to support healthy ageing. This assessment gives Vitality 65+ members an accurate and personalised understanding of their physical function and falls risk.
