Vitality Fitness Assessment Results

The Vitality High Performance Fitness Assessment has been removed due to low take-up by members.

To encourage higher levels of cardiorespiratory fitness, we have introduced the possibility of earning up to 10,000 fitness points based on your cardiorespiratory fitness level. This is measured by doing a Vitality Fitness Assessment or through VO2 max estimates received from your fitness devices. Vo2 max measures the maximum rate of oxygen consumption attainable during physical exertion. The name is derived from three abbreviations: "V?" for volume, "O2" for oxygen, and "max" for maximum.

VO2 max is the maximum volume (V) of oxygen (O2) your body can process. A VO2 max score is used to measure the capacity your body has to use oxygen when exercising. If you have a high VO2 max score, you are more fitter. VO2 max has three primary components:

  • Lung capacity and heart volume: The more oxygen your lungs can intake and the more oxygenated blood your heart can pump, the higher your VO2 score.
  • Capillary delivery: The more oxygenated blood your circulatory system can transport to your muscles, the higher your VO2 score.
  • Muscle efficiency: The more your muscles can extract and use oxygen from your blood, the higher your VO2 score.

Knowing your current VO2 max is key to understanding and improving your fitness. It serves as a baseline measurement of your fitness level today, and it can inform your training to improve your VO2 max readings in the future. You won't automatically run, ride or ski faster if you increase your VO2 max. But raising your score will make it easier to go faster and to sustain a given pace in any aerobic activity you do.

In 2024, you will be able to earn up to a maximum of 10 000 Vitality points based on your VO2 Max readings done at your biokenticist. Points will be based on the level you have attained for your VO2 Max score. There will be 5 categories as per below table that you can earn points for
