The Discovery Day Surgery Network
The Day Surgery Network is a list of dedicated day hospitals and acute facilities where members on our Comprehensive, Core, KeyCare, Priority, Saver and Smart plan series' undergo certain same-day medical procedures. Members on the Executive plan can use any approved facility.
We've made updates to the day surgery procedure list
We have updated the current day surgery procedure list and added the below procedures which are outlined below. We cover the additional procedures in the Day Surgery Network according to the benefits of your chosen health plan. This change will apply from mid-August 2023, subject to the approval by the Council for Medical Schemes.
Gynaecological procedures
- Diagnostic laparoscopy
- Simple vulval and introitus procedures: Simple hymenotomy, partial hymenectomy, simple vulvectomy, excision of Bartholin's gland cyst
- Vaginal, cervix and oviduct procedures: Excision vaginal septum, cyst or tumour, tubal ligation or occlusion, uterine cervix cerclage, removal cerclage suture
- Suction curettage
- Uterine evacuation and curettage
Uncomplicated hernia procedures
- Umbilical hernia repair
- Inguinal hernia repair
Nerve procedures
- Neuroplasty median nerve, ulnar nerve, digital, nerve of hand or foot

Preauthorisation is still an important step
You must contact us to get authorisation before for your admission to hospital or day surgery facility for planned procedures. If you have a planned procedure listed above that is scheduled for after mid-August and you have already received preauthorisation, there is no need to preauthorise again. The procedure will be covered according to the existing authorisation and benefits of your chosen health plan. You can view your planned admissions here.
