What is Discovery Pothole Patrol?
Since its launch in May 2021, the Discovery Pothole Patrol initiative has helped repair over 309,505 potholes in the City of Joburg and counting, exceeding its original weekly target by more than 50%. In 2024, the Discovery Pothole Patrol Academy was born to give learners real-world practical construction skills and the confidence to start their own businesses.
The Discovery Pothole Patrol app (available on the App Store and Google Play) uses geolocation to allow users to log and report potholes within the Johannesburg Road Agency's jurisdiction. Once you've reported a pothole, an inspector determines the size and depth to make sure that the pothole falls within mandate to repair, and a repair team comes out to fix it up. When you report the pothole through the app, you will be notified via in-app messaging and push notifications of the status of the repairs
How can you help? From 13 October to 26 November 2025, you can donate your Ðiscovery Miles to support the Pothole Patrol campaign through Vitality MoveToGive in the Discovery app or Discovery Bank app.

Log in to the Discovery app
Select Vitality MoveToGive under Top Deals in the Vitality Mall in the Discovery app.
Here's how:

Select Vitality MoveToGive as an instant reward option in the Discovery Bank app.
