The freedom that comes from knowing

There is something reassuring about knowing where you stand with your health.

Most people feel the impact of small changes long before they talk about them. A little less energy, a few restless nights, or just a nudging curiosity about whether everything is still on track.

The Vitality Health Check offers a way to gain greater awareness through real information. It looks at five essential health measures: blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, weight and smoking status. These markers help you understand where your health currently stands and whether any early risks are present.

Dr Mosima Mabunda, Discovery Vitality's Chief Clinical Officer, sees the check as an important part of maintaining long term wellbeing. "A simple set of health measurements can reveal patterns that often go unnoticed," she says. "When people have access to these insights, they are better positioned to address risks early and protect their future health."

Completing the check is surprisingly simple. It is available at participating locations such as Clicks and Dis Chem, or through GPs and pharmacies in the Vitality Wellness Network. You can also complete it at a Discovery Store or, in certain areas, at home if you live in a major city.

Knowing your numbers brings a type of clarity that shows up in everyday life. You can see whether your habits are supporting you or whether a few adjustments might help you feel better. If something needs attention, you can address it early instead of waiting for symptoms to speak louder. The Personal Health Pathways programme also offers personalised informational guidance based on your results, which makes the next steps feel manageable and relevant to your lifestyle.

The check comes with an added advantage. You earn Vitality points for completing it, along with additional points where applicable if your results fall within healthy ranges, subject to the applicable Vitality programme rules. These points help unlock access to rewards across the programme like HealthyFood savings, fitness benefits and travel discounts.

"A structured assessment like the Vitality Health Check gives people a reliable starting point for the choices they make," Dr Mabunda says. That is the freedom that comes from knowing.

The Vitality Health Check is a screening tool and does not constitute medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Results should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional where appropriate. Availability, points and rewards are subject to the Vitality programme rules.
