Description

What will happen if I don’t visit the gym 36 times in a rolling 12-month period?
If you activated the gym benefit after 1 January 2010:
If you do not visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12-month period, you will still have access to the gym but your discount will reduce to 50% off the standard gym fees every month.

If you activated the Vitality Active Rewards Gym Booster benefit, you will no longer get cash back. You will only be eligible for Gym Booster once you reach a minimum of 36 gym workouts in a rolling 12-month period and your membership saving is at 75%.

Gym Booster: Cash back billing cycle

Your Vitality benefit cash back billing cycle dates might change to include the gym reimbursement and Gym Booster payments.

Please note that the drop in gym savings applies to members (main member and spouse) with Virgin Active Club or Premier Memberships, Planet Fitness Local or National memberships and KeyFit Club memberships.

If you activated the gym benefit before 1 January 2010:

If you don’t visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12-month period, your gym benefit will be cancelled. You can re-join the gym within 30 days and you won't pay an activation or card/tag fee. To start, you'll get 50% off your monthly gym fee, and as soon as you reach 36 visits in a rolling 12-month period (taking your past training history into account), you'll get up to 75% off.

To view your gym visits in the last 12 months, go to your Vitality Gym Tracker by logging into www.discovery.co.za > Vitality > Gym tracker.

Please note: Your visits to the gym can take up to four days to reflect on the Vitality Gym Tracker.

When does my Virgin Active/Planet Fitness ‘year’ run from?
Your rolling 12-month period starts from the day you join the health club. If you activate between the 1st and 15th of the month, your start date will be the 1st of that month. If you activate from the 16th to the end of the month, your start date will be the 1st of the following month.

At the end of your first year of using the Vitality gym benefit, we count your visits to check that you have been to the gym 36 times in that 12-month period. From then on, at the end of every month we count back 12 months to find out what your total number of gym visits were during that period.

For example: If you joined the health club on 1 June 2016 then the rolling 12-month cycle is from 1 June 2016 to 31 May 2017.

How many times do I need to visit the gym each month?
To keep your Vitality Gym Benefit at Virgin Active or Planet Fitness, you must visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12-month period – this is a minimum of three times a month. Only one gym visit a day will count towards this total visits requirement.

Remember to always take your gym access card or tag to the health club with you. Your visits will be recorded at the turnstile. If the turnstile is not working, ask to sign the manual register at the reception.

I received a notification telling me that I need more gym visits before the end of month.
If you don’t visit the gym at least 36 times in a rolling 12-month period, your gym benefit will be reduced or cancelled depending on when you joined the Vitality gym benefit. Each month, a new value is calculated and you may need to visit the gym more in that month to keep the benefit or improve your visit status.

Please note that this applies to members (main member and spouse) with Virgin Active Club or Premier memberships, Planet Fitness Local or National memberships and KeyFit Club memberships.

If you received a notification saying that you still need to make up a certain number of gym visits and you did so, please check that the visits reflect on the Vitality Gym Tracker available by logging into www.discovery.co.za > Vitality > Gym tracker.

Please note: Your visits to the gym can take up to four days to reflect on the Vitality Gym Tracker.

I made up my 36 visits but you still billed me 50%?
Your gym visits are reviewed at the end of every month for the previous rolling 12-month period.

Please note that if you made up your visits within the month, they would only reflect in the first week of the following month. That is why your discount would have decreased to 50%. The following month the correct discount of 75% will again reflect. There is essentially a 1 month lag between gym visits and your discount billing.

For example if you needed to have gone to the gym 36 times by the end of March and you visited your gym just before the end of March, those visits will only reflect in the first week of April. At the beginning of April you will be billed a 50% discount but at the beginning of May you will be billed at up to 75% discount.

Why am I being billed a gym premium (second member fee) that was not reflecting before because of Vitality status?
If your gym contract start date was before 1 December 2007 and you are a Silver, Gold or Diamond Vitality status member, then there is no second member fee to be paid.

If your Vitality status drops to either blue or bronze a premium fee of R160 for the second member will be charged.

Why am I being billed a gym premium as I moved from my own Vitality and I am now a dependant on my husband's Vitality (pre 2010)?
If you are an adult dependent on a Vitality policy, a premium fee of R160 is charged.

I got a letter saying that my membership is cancelled but you did not send me a warning letter?
Please be aware that should you not make the 36 gym visits within a rolling 12-month period, your gym benefit will either drop to 50% off the standard gym fees every month (if you joined after 1 January 2010) or will be cancelled (if you joined before 1 January 2010). It is therefore important that you continue to monitor the number of visits you have made to the gym by checking the Vitality Gym tracker feature on the Discovery website. Do so by logging into www.discovery.co.za > Vitality > Gym tracker.

I want to cancel my gym membership
For members who activated after 1 January 2010:

If you would like to cancel your Vitality gym benefit, you need to contact your club directly:

For members who activated before1 January 2010: Please contact Vitality to cancel your gym benefit.

I went to the gym but my visits are not showing on the Vitality Points Monitor?
Your gym visits will reflect within four days on the Vitality Points Monitor and the Vitality Gym Tracker. The Gym Tracker can be found on www.discovery.co.za > Vitality > Gym Tracker.

My children, aged 12-18, are on the gym benefit but they are not earning points.
Child dependants between six and up to 18 years old can earn Vitality fitness points. Please ensure that you send your child’s details to us, including membership number, full name, ID number, health club branch, and start date so that your child can start earning points. Details should be sent to vitalityinfo@discovery.co.za.

Please note that child dependants should swipe their card at the turnstile or sign the manual register in order for points to be awarded. Child dependants between six and up to 18 years old earn 100 points for one visit and a maximum of 20 000 points per year.
