Partner with Doctors without Borders to help sexual violence survivors access healthcare services
Access to adequate medical treatment is a basic human right. Your MoveToGive donation can give many survivors of sexual violence in Rustenburg access to the healthcare services and medicines needed to help them recover from their traumatic experiences.
The high rates of sexual violence in South Africa are concerning and should be addressed using a set of both preventative and reactive approaches. In the mining area of Rustenburg, in particular, approximately 50% of women have been subject to some form of sexual or intimate partner violence.
It's vital that survivors get immediate medical and psychological care to help reduce the long term mental and physical impact. Residents of informal settlements in Rustenburg, however, have limited access to well-resourced, dedicated health services to respond to sexual violence. Furthermore, many survivors have little access to information regarding prevention of HIV, unwanted pregnancy and the mitigation of other potential health consequences of sexual violence.
